Included with this package:

1. HP 35s calculator, programmed for the subjects tested in the Electrical Engineering PE exam

2. Detailed reference guide for the Electrical programs in the calculator.

3. Official HP 35s User Manual

4. Leather case

5. New batteries

The programs and equations contained in this calculator are matched to the current electrical engineering PE exam specifications and are specifically designed to solve NCEES electrical engineering exam questions. A Newcalc guide book is included that contains simple instructions on how to use the electrical engineering programs, and summarizes each program, its applications, variables, program text, and miscellaneous notes. This guide book helps the user become familiar with the programs and how they are used for standard question types. The guide book is a very useful reference, and is permitted into the exam room.

This product is more than a list of equations pre-typed into the calculator. This product is a combination of programs and equations, that are expanded to incorporate the calculation steps involved in the standard NCEES questions. There are over 420 lines of program and equation text, that are pre-typed into the calculator. Most of these lines of text are for programs, since each equation only counts as one line of text, regardless of its length. This product utilizes the HP 35s' full programming capabilities, and applies them to the EE PE exam. This is significantly more valuable than just typing in equations copied from the NCEES Supplied Reference Handbook, or other published study aid.

The programs are relevant to the subject matter of the morning breadth module of the exam and the afternoon "power" depth module and "electronics, controls and communications" depth module.

All of these programs have been carefully selected, reviewed and tested by two licensed professional engineers (names and license numbers available on request), and all programs are guaranteed to be error-free. A lot of time has been spent developing and checking these programs and equations. The use of this product will provide greater accuracy and speed in tackling the numerical questions on the exam, and allow more time to be spent on the descriptive and abstract questions.

The programs are designed to give maximum flexibility to accommodate uncertainty in the format of the information presented in a question. For example, the voltage drop calculation allows the user to input the load on the circuit in terms of power or current, depending upon which is given in the question, and the same program works for 1 and 3-phase circuits (the user inputs the number of phases, and the program applies the correct formula in either case). Some of the programs are also designed to consolidate the steps in a calculation process, for example, one of the programs for power factor correction allows the required amount of reactive power, to be calculated based on the circuit parameters and desired power factor that are entered into the program. The manual solution method of analyzing the two different circuits, sketching the power triangles to determine the difference in reactive power, etc. is circumvented by incorporation into the program. Instructions for using the programs are made as simple as possible in the guide. Units are consistent with the NCEES conventions, and are therefore a combination of metric and imperial depending upon the particular application.

The electrical engineering program list is as follows (note: A few of the subjects listed below have more than one program included in the calculator, for maximum versatility and application to different question types)

The calculator can operate in either RPN (reverse polish notation) or regular algebraic mode. All of the programs (except two) will operate in either mode. Two of the programs must operate in RPN mode, and this is clearly noted in the Newcalc guide book.

No programming skills are needed to enter or execute any of the programs. The instructions provided in each version of the program guide are very simple. The user will not have to refer to the HP 35s User's Manual, although a copy of this is included with the package.

The program data may be erased if the user resets the calculator or removes the batteries without replacing them immediately. Although it is unlikely that the data will be lost in error, all program text is provided so that the calculator can be reprogrammed if this occurs. Batteries are new and should last at least two years. If data is lost accidentally, Newcalc promises to re-program the calculator for free, and within two weeks, provided that the customer pays the actual shipping charges.

In April 2004, the NCEES began a policy of strictly enforcing the calculator policy, and the HP 35s is the most advanced RPN calculator that is permitted in these exams. The NCEES does permit pre-programmed calculators to be used during the exams, and there is no restriction on the data that may be programmed into a calculator provided that it is an approved model. The official NCEES calculator policy can be viewed at http://www.ncees.org/exams/calculators. The policy was updated on November 15, 2006, for the 2007 exams, and the HP 35s is still permitted.

The calculator provided in this package is brand new, the box has been opened only for the purpose of programming the calculator, and all standard HP 35s accessories are provided.

Please refer to the feedback comments from PE candidates who have recently purchased this programmed calculator and used it in recent examinations. The Newcalc EBAY account has 100% positive feedback. Many users have indicated that they probably would not have passed the exam without the help of this programmed calculator.

Shipping is by either UPS Ground or USPS Priority Mail. All items are shipped out within three days of receipt of payment, and all shipments are insured by the carrier or guaranteed by Newcalc.

If you already own an HP 35s calculator and would like to send it to Newcalc for programming, the total cost is $165. This includes entering all of the program data and providing a copy of the program guide. The calculator and payment check should be sent to Newcalc with a note indicating which exam it is to be programmed for. If paying by Paypal, please make payment directly to sales@newcalc.com, and include a comment that you are sending your own calculator in for programming.
